Because of its age and how it has adapted. Strawberry Hill has been around for over half of the 300 years of Freemasonry as we know it.
Strawberry Hill – the fifth oldest Lodge in Middlesex – was so named because its founders lived in and around that district, as was the location of its first place of meeting – “The Popes Grotto Hotel” – in Strawberry Vale, Twickenham. The relationship of the area with strawberry growing for the London markets would have been very obvious to its founders and anyone visiting the area in 1863.
The number of our Lodge is 946: recently formed Lodges have numbers now approaching 10,000.
Though long established, we have moved with the times. We take account of the pressures of ‘modern living’, showing at the same time that the more effort you put in, the more enjoyment you will get out.
We have regular practice sessions – or Lodges of Instruction – as well as a separate set of social events.
Strawberry Hill is not a Lodge allied to a specific interest group and welcomes all ages, backgrounds and abilities – that’s what keeps things diverse and fresh.
